I lived in Munich, Germany, for nearly 10 years and graduated from Munich American High School. After attending Syracuse University (in both London, England, and Syracuse, NY), I worked briefly in advertising (as a secretary), in fashion (as a proofreader), and for a consulting firm (as an editor). Then I spent 10 years working at the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) in Manhattan doing PR and writing recruitment publications. After I burned out from commuting (and not seeing my kids because of the commute), I found a job on Long Island. That’s when I pivoted from trying to establish myself as a writer/editor and spent nearly 23 years working for the union office of a Long Island school district as a bookkeeper/office manager. (Dirty little secret: you make more money as an office manager than a writer.)
On the creative front, I am also a published playwright and have experience as both a director and producer. Three of my plays were produced on Long Island in the early 2000’s. in February 2021, I published Get In The Car: A Food and Travel Memoir. And, after not writing fiction for nearly 20 years, in May 2023, I published a collection of short stories titled, The Camp People . Both are available on Amazon in both paperback and Kindle version.
As of March 2024, I’ve been writing food-related short stories on Substack. Titled “Something Tasty,” this last endeavor has been a lot of fun. Please take a look if you’re not familiar with those posts! You can also find links to my work on my Instagram account – redhouseproject.
My husband drew this picture of me quite a few years ago and I like it a lot. That’s why it’s here.
